An afternoon with CVHS

An afternoon with CVHS

Chelmer Valley High School sure has talent and a vast amount of it too! On Sunday afternoon 7th May we were treated to a fantastic afternoon of music performed by the students. St Mary’s Church was packed to hear an array of modern and yesterday songs sung, first by the Year 11 Vocal Group who sang ‘Jolene’ and ‘Shake it out’. Then, Voice and Ukulele, ‘I see fire’ by Clarissa Royal and Samantha Chandler.

A change of mood featured Colin Strate who played two piano pieces ‘60s Swing’ and ‘Allegro non tanto’.

Cadence – A singing group gave us three tunes ‘Wings’, ‘When we were young’ and ‘Close to you’. Following Cadence, we heard pianist Zac Tomas play ‘Compline d’un autre ete’ and ‘Indian Pony Race’.

Year 9 Vocal Group then sang ‘Lost Boy’, followed by Cadence who sang that lovely song ‘Send in the Clowns’ and changing the mood, swung into ‘Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy’ which got us all tapping our toes.

The afternoon closed with the CVHS Choir singing a medley of beautiful songs from the ‘Lion King’ it was fantastic. The girls and guys gave all they had to ensure we had a brilliant afternoon and I can assure them we did. Jill, who organised the concert thanked everyone, especially CVHS Head of Music, Abby Cussell for all the work that went into making the afternoon such a success.

The series of concerts that have been arranged by Jill Parkin is to raise money for the restoration of the church organ which will take place in due course, the cost of the overhaul is estimated at £30.000.

Please keep watch for future Concerts. The next event is planned for Sunday June 11th at 3.00pm featuring ‘Singdicate.

Future events are: Friday June 16th 7.00pm Lorraine Ely (Soprano) and Hans Montanana (Piano)

Sunday 25th June 6.30pm: Songs of Praise on the Green.

Sunday October 8th 3.00pm: CHEGO (The Chelmsford Guitar Orchestra)
