Come Holy Spirit

Come Holy Spirit

At this morning’s Family Service, we welcomed yet again the Holy Spirit to come into our lives. The church was filled with red balloons and colourful ‘Spirit’ scarves that we were encouraged to wear. Revd Diana was to conduct the service but before it began Revd Carolyn blessed five new stoles that had been made for each of our clergy. The red stoles had been fashioned according to the nature of each of the team. Revd Julie had a candle embellishment because she is reflective and loves the light, Revd Anne had a healing hands embellishment, Revd Diana had the bible because of her love of study and Revd Carolyn had the elements embellished on her stole. There was also a fifth stole ready for another member of the clergy, who will receive it when they have been priested in September… (shhhhh!)

Half way through the service Carolyn conducted a beautiful blessing and renewal of wedding vows taken by Valerie and John to celebrate their fifty years of marriage. Congratulations!

During the address Revd Diana got the children to come up and write words on a large piece of paper – words that come to mind when we think about the work of the Holy Spirit within us, words like, care, love, support and fellowship etc, and during a special hymn the children (and a few of the adults too) did all they could to keep the balloons in the air…

Following the service and after tea and biscuits some of us made our way out into the sun-filled courtyard for a lovely picnic… It was such a beautiful day, one that we are bound to remember for ages.
