Congratulations to Val and Dave

Congratulations to Val and Dave

Many congratulations to Val and Dave Vicary on their 50th Wedding Anniversary which is due on Friday 14th. We had a lovely 10.30am service lead by Revd Julie, who spoke about Jesus and his healing of the man who was deaf and dumb. Like us, we are often guilty of being deaf to the words of God and very dumb when it comes to spreading the word. Revd Julie ended her sermon with the beautiful prayer attributed to St Benedict… Which led us very nicely onto the Wedding Anniversary Blessing of Val and Dave… Whilst making their way down the aisle, Revd Carolyn said how often she stands at the front and marries people who feel that their future relationship will be bliss, but it takes a long marriage like Val and Dave’s to realise what keeping their wedding vows really mean. It was a short but very meaningful blessing and the service ended with a few photos.

In the afternoon, starting at 3.00pm we gathered on Church Green for our annual Pet Service. On a lovely sunny afternoon, around 40 people came together with their animals, mainly dogs for what has become a very happy service to bless our very best friends. Revd Diana led the service and she spoke of how precious our animal friends are to us. And we prayed for them and for those animals that are ill-treated or abused. All the animals there were blessed individually by Revd’s Diana, Julie and Carolyn, and we had great fun singing some lovely, doggy hymns, like ‘All things bright and beautiful’ and a children’s hymn called ‘From the tiny ant’. The children helped us sing this hymn as it was somewhat complicated to say the least… But we started off ok, and all ended together, not quite sure what happened in the middle? But who cares? We had a great afternoon that ended with refreshments in St Leonard’s Hall… Woof. Woof.
