Revd Diana's first Eucharist

Revd Diana's first Eucharist

There was no let-up for any of our clergy this morning following the priesting of Revd Diana and Revd Philip Howlett yesterday. For they all played a part in helping Revd Diana preside at her first Eucharist Service. Revd Carolyn, read through the Charge Certificate from Bishop John, accompanied by Margaret Powell and Peter Baker the Church Wardens. Diana was then presented with a new stole from the church and was seated in the Celebrant’s Chair, from which she conducted the service.

Revd Julie read the Gospel of Matthew 22: 34-40 which tells us that the most important commandment is to love God with all your heart, your soul and your mind, and to love your neighbour as yourself. In her Sermon, Revd Carolyn reminded us all just how powerful the Holy Spirit can be, and what an awesome responsibility He has placed upon Diana and all the other new Priests. She said how Diana had been Baptised and Confirmed at St Mary’s and now Priested and how important it is that faithful Christians like Diana must listen to God’s call as He has a plan for all of us. God gives us the gift of Grace, which makes us strong, so that we can learn to love ourselves as well as others. Carolyn recognises in Diana a great prayer warrior, saying how a prayerful priest is a powerful priest.

At Prayers of Intercession, Revd Anne read a beautiful and very moving prayer especially for Diana, which you can read in a second article entitled ‘A Prayer for Revd Diana’. After a seemingly faultless service we were all invited into St Leonard’s Hall for a Celebration Lunch. Revd Diana’s work hadn’t finished as she was asked to say The Grace, cut the cake and have numerous photos taken before we all tucked into a truly wonderful buffet lunch – Phew! Congratulations Revd Diana… May your journey be a happy and fulfilling one.
