Jesus resisted temptation.

Jesus resisted temptation.

In her 10.30am sermon, Revd Julie spoke about temptation and how much it affects all our lives. Everywhere we go, she said, we see adverts trying to tempt us to buy their products, visit their store or website. One of the first stories in the bible is of Eve being tempted by the snake to pick an apple from the forbidden tree and she no doubt tempted Adam to take a bite! Falling into temptation isn’t all about goods we can be tempted to gamble, to drink too much alcohol, to eat too much, to take drugs, to steal – we can be tempted into almost anything, greed, power and money – to lie, to cheat, to deceive…

Jesus was tempted by the devil during his forty days in the wilderness when he was hungry and alone, but he would not succumb to the evil-one’s requests, Jesus would not put God to the test… We are all tempted to do what we know is wrong in our life then we pray and expect God to put everything right. We must not take God for granted or let temptation rule our lives. We must turn to God in prayer before we give in to the temptations that lay all around us.

It was extremely tempting to stay at home on an extraordinarily windy afternoon, but many of us resisted the temptation and went over to the Prize Winners Concert that had been organised by Jill Parkin in aid of the restoration of the Church Organ Fund. It was a great afternoon as many of the youngsters entertained us with singing, violin, flute and piano playing – finishing with a wonderful choir – Revd Carolyn thanked all those who performed for us, especially Jill who organised the event. Brilliant!

Another great Concert.

Another great Concert.
