To launch to Church Organ Fund we were treated to a very enjoyable ‘Summer Concert’

After weeks of having St Mary’s church out of action owing to the new heating system being installed it was great to be back in church and seeing it packed to capacity.

The concert started with an organ recital called ‘Songs of Praise’ in order to get us all settled and in the right frame of mind.

Philip Howlett who compared the concert introduced us to the Broomfield Church Choir who sang three pieces of music featuring soloist, Jonathan Parkin. We then had a lovely piece of music played on the Viola by young Florence Cope, followed by a flute solo by Alice Baily. Alys Harvey beautifully sang two solos. ‘It was a Lover and his Lass’ and ‘The Time of My Life’.

The concert continued with a violin and piano piece performed by Christine Cope and Jo Philpot, followed by a percussion solo by Craig Apps. Oliver Carey played ‘Sonata No 1’ on the piccolo trumpet after which we were treated to three lovely songs sung by the Elm Green Prep School Choir.

We all retired to the entrance to St Leonard’s Hall for about 30 minutes where Pimm’s, soft drinks, crisps and other nibbles were awaiting us, organised by the Tibbott girls.

On returning to the church for the second half of the concert we were enthralled by an organ recital played this time by Peter Wakeford. We were fortunate enough to have most of the soloists return to treat us to another piece of music before Reverend Carolyn thanked everyone with a prayer and blessing. The concert drew to a close with presentations to Jill, who in turn presented gifts to thank all the soloists for their wonderful music’ We then joined in singing with the Broomfield Church Choir and the Elm Green Prep School Choir which almost raised the roof off the church.

Many thanks must go to Jill Parkin and everyone, to numerous to mention, who helped set the Organ Fund on the road. So successful was the concert that we all look forward to more such events in the future.
