25th March 2020

Good morning... I hope that you had a good nights sleep and that you are settling into a helful pattern in your days. We are creatures of habit and when things change suddenly it takes us time to adjust. I am sure that many people, like me, are feeling unsettled and I hope that the daily rhythm of morning and evening prayer, which are ancient offices of the Church, are helping to frame your day.

My favourite words from Morning prayer are from the opening prayer:

The night has passed, and the day lies open before us;
let us pray with one heart and mind.

Silence is kept.

As we rejoice in the gift of this new day,
so may the light of your presence, O God,
set our hearts on fire with love for you;
now and for ever.

 The silence kept between the two stanzas is so important for us to just bring ourselves into God's presence and allow Him to meet us, as we are, at the start of everyday. We are not expected to think or pray anything into that space... it is the gift of time.

I will be saying Morning Prayer at 8.40am after listening to the hymn, attempting to keep to the rhythm of days as they used to be. Do join us then or at any other time that suits you.

May God bless you today

Carolyn, Vicar of Broomfield
