Silence is kept
Church News | Tuesday, 11 November 2014 |
On 11th November at 11.00am all fell silent for two minutes at the War Memorial on Church Green after which, Reverend Carolyn conducted a short but sincere service of remembrance.
Many of us were there to support members of the Royal British Legion and the armed forces, and to pay our respect and remember the men who gave their lives in two World War. Wreaths of poppies were laid and small wooden crosses were placed at the foot of the memorial. Following the service and dismissal of military personnel a class of children from St Pius X C Primary School, led by their teacher sang ‘Abide with me’.
After the service on the green the children, who had joined us for the memorial service, accompanied by their teacher, followed Revd Carolyn up to St Mary’s Church to have a look around.
The Broomfield War Memorial commemorates 24 local men who were killed in the First World War and 20 who died in the Second World War. It was unveiled in 1997.
