For some years now St. Mary’s Church has held a gift weekend, during which everyone from the parish has been invited by letter to make a contribution to the upkeep and running of the Church to enable us to maintain the building in good order for this and future generations. During the Gift weekend the church has been open and people of the parish have been invited to bring their gifts to the church or to post them to the Vicar in advance.
This year I would like to offer something a little different. Firstly, you will not be receiving a letter asking you for money! However, I would still like to invite you to the church building on the traditional Gift Weekend, the 2nd weekend in September. On the 8th of September from 10am – 11am there will be an opportunity to hear someone speak about the history of the round tower; then from 2.30pm – 4pm there will be a chance to learn more about our organ and the music that we have here in church. From 4pm until 5.30pm you are invited to explore the church and learn a little about the stained glass windows.
On Sunday the 9th of September you are invited to join us (as always) at any of our regular acts of worship: 8am Holy Communion, 10.30am Eucharist and 6.30pm for Evening Prayer with the Vesper Singers.
During the times that the church is open on Saturday the 8th of September and after services on the 9th of September there will be an opportunity to join us for some refreshments and a cake.
Of course, we do hope that while you are here in the church, you will choose to make a gift donation to one of the many projects that we will be seeking to undertake during the next year or so (amongst which are to replace the 1930’s boiler for a new a more efficient heating system, to re-point the round tower to ensure that it continues to function for many centuries to come, and to refurbish our magnificent organ).
However, our first priority is to enable everyone in the parish to come along to their church building, to learn a little more about it, to experience the welcome and hospitality which we pride ourselves in and to ensure that you know that St. Mary’s Church remains a place where God can always be found in Broomfield.
We look forward to welcoming you to any of our services or functions, and especially hope that you will accept this letter as your personal invitation to join us during our parish Gift Weekend.
With every blessing
