Love

On a cold, wet morning many of us met together in St Mary’s Church to celebrate the second Sunday of Advent. After the greeting the second Advent Candle of Love was lit. In her address Revd Carolyn spoke of Love and the way us as Christians can take the message of how God reaches out with love to His people. Revd Carolyn reminded us that the season of Advent is all about preparation, we of course are preparing for Christmas with all the gift buying, card writing, organising family get-togethers and such-like. In the Old Testament we hear of God’s warning of His Sons coming as the promised Messiah, and Jesus’ forerunner John the Baptist who was to be sent to prepare the way for His coming… Of course, it took many generations of preparation before John and then Jesus came to us, but as Revd Carolyn said, even every-day happenings, such as the repair of the spire and the overhaul of the organ has taken many, many years of planning before work can eventually start. We of course are fortunate to know John the Baptist and Jesus our Messiah through the scriptures, so we can prepare our hearts and minds to spread the message of God through our prayers and actions at Christmas. Joining us this morning was Mr Brian Howson from the Prison Fellowship who came to collect the many children’s gifts that had been purchased and wrapped by members of the Ladies Group. The gifts, having been blessed, will be given to some of the children of those imprisoned. Thank you for showing such Love…
