'With you I am well pleased'

On a very bright but cold morning we gathered in church to celebrate the Baptism of Christ… Revd Diana lead the service and our first hymn was ‘Lord of our life and God of our salvation’, so beautiful. In her address Revd Dawn began by asking why did Jesus have to be baptised, when He was the Christ and was without sin? But Rev Dawn went on to say that it is through baptism that we see the powerful love of God, and it was so at the Baptism of Christ, for as the baptism waters flowed from off Jesus’ robs, He prayed and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in the living form of a dove, the clouds parted and the voice of God was heard to say ‘You are my Son, the beloved, with you I am well pleased’ – Revd Dawn reminded us that it is through our own baptism that we are joined to the Trinity of Christ, and that we may want to reflect on our baptism, even if we were to young to remember. And because Jesus prayed, it just goes to show how important prayer is to our lives. Amen
