Baptism - The start of a journey!
Church News | Sunday, 10 January 2016 |
We celebrated the Baptism of Christ today. It is said that a journey of a thousand miles begins with one step, for our Saviour then, his Baptism performed by John in the river Jordan must surely have been the first step on our Lord’s road to the cross.
Our parents or guardians choose our name and God calls us by that name, we are His and he waits for us to respond. Those of us who have been baptised, mainly brought to the font by our parents are fortunate to have been shown the path we should take from a young age. For most, who have not been baptised may never know that they can choose to follow the way of the cross if they want to, so our work is cut out – It is up to us who have been blessed with baptism to seek out those who have not and help show them the way if they have a desire to know.
You are mine, O my child; I am your father, and I love you with a perfect love. Do not be afraid, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by your name; You are mine.
