Well! I thought I had seen it all until Revd Anne bounced all the way down the aisle of St Mary’s Church on a ‘space hopper’. It appeared that Anne was supposed to conduct the sermon but somewhere along the way she went missing. Revd Carolyn panicked a bit and we all had to call out for Anne, until she suddenly appeared mounted on a 1970s type space hopper. But there was a method in Revd Anne’s madness for, set up on a table it became the ‘orange’ world from which the Christingle was formed… The children helped to stick all the good things we receive from God onto the ball then Anne attached four sticks to represent the seasons and the red ribbon was added by Revd Carolyn. Last of all the decorated hopper was moved over to the side so that the lit candle (light of the world) completed the picture. The Puppets performed a beautiful Christingle song for all to enjoy and we were able to welcome one of our newly baptised little-one’s into the family of the church.
It was a truly beautiful and upbeat service, full of joyful laughter and happy singing. We all went home with our lovely Christingles and we hope there were lots of generous donations for the work of the ‘Children’s Society’. Revd Anne thanked all those who helped make the Christingles on Saturday and the service ended with that cheerful hymn ‘Shine Jesus Shine’.
