'It was with great joy we received our palm crosses this morning at the 10.30 service. The service began in St Leonard’s Hall and processed into church with many cries of hosanna before we settled down to the service. Following the liturgy of the Passion, beautifully read to us by Carolyn, Anne and Diana, Revd Carolyn began her sermon by calling the children down to the front and telling them how the palm crosses were made and from what they are made of… The children then went off to the Lady Chapel to colour and crayon. This left Revd Carolyn to start her talk by saying what a great disappointment Jesus must have been to his many followers. Over his few years of ministry Jesus had gathered about him many thousands of followers who would come to see this amazing man, a great speaker who could hold them spell-bound with his words and could perform astonishing miracles. So when Jesus called for a colt upon which to ride into Jerusalem, his followers rejoiced with palm branches and gave mighty shouts of joy for this great man who was going to rise up against the enemy and defeat them, instead, the crowd's joy quickly turned to anger when their hero went meekley to his trial, beating and eventual death.
Little did his followers know at that time that He was a great man who rose up against the enemy of sin and death and He did defeat both for the sake of us all. Hosanna to the Son of David, the King of Israel! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!
