Churches together in Broomfield held morning worship starting off in St Mary’s Church before processing down to Broomfield Methodist Church where the service was completed. It was a beautiful day and the sun shone brightly as a good number of us walked along following the Cross that was carried on the shoulders of men who took it in turn to hold high the cross as a witness and re-enactment of Christ’s agonizing journey to the Place of the Skulls where he was crucified. Following the final part of the service in Broomfield Methodist Church refreshments were served along with hot cross buns.
In the afternoon starting at 2.00pm Good Friday reflections were held in St Mary’s Church were we were reminded of Christ’s Passion and Crucifixion through prayers, bible readings, hymns and silence. It was a very moving service conducted by Revd’s Carolyn and Anne, the service concluded with the hymn ‘Rock of Ages’ and a prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, wounded and crushed, you gave your life that we might live. Go out into the world in the silence and the spirit of Jesus, to dwell these three days in darkness and uncertainty. But do not let your hearts be troubled.
We were encouraged to leave the church in reverence and silence.
