The sun streamed through the windows at the 10.30 Family Service this morning as little Emily Coward was baptized during the service. It was a wonderful gathering of Emily's family and friends along with many of the regular congregation who came along to welcome this little one into the family of the church. It was great to see a lot of children in church and they were remarkably well behaved and quiet especially during prayers when Revd Carolyn took this opportunity to thank God for all the help and support given to little Emily and her family during the early days following her birth.
The scripture reading from John 20: tells us how Jesus breathed on the disciples and told them to behold the gift of the Holy Spirit. After the Gospel reading Revd Anne called the children forward and tried to explain to them the power of the Holy Spirit by saying how useless a balloon is until it is filled with breath or air… With all the children now holding blown up balloons Emily, her parents and God parents were called forward to make their promises and for Emily to be anointed with holy oil. The children then led the procession down the isle to the font waving their balloons where Emily was christened. We all welcome Emily and her family and hope to see them again very soon.
I could only get the above photograph from a distance and as everyone is bathed in sunshine it’s not very clear, but if Emily’s parents would like to send me a better picture I will be more than delighted to replace the one uploaded. Send to: email@example.com
