St Leonard’s hall was filled on Saturday for the APCM. It was a lively meeting starting with the Vestry Meeting. Margaret Powell and Peter Baker have agreed to be St Mary’s Church Wardens once again and they were duly proposed, seconded and re-elected.
There was a short break before the APCM began with the reading and signing of the minutes, following the election of Kathy Rouse as clerk to the meeting and apologies for non-attendance. The 30page Annual Review made excellent reading with reports put forward by the Vicar, the Treasurer and other church business. It also contained information from most of the groups that meet during the year. It was noted that a few of the groups had ceased running, namely the Girl’s Group and the Carer’s Group however, the rest of the groups appeared to be flourishing. A Thursday morning Eucharist has been introduced that is held in the Lady Chapel during term time, so that young parents with children can come along and feel comfortable and a Church Sitting rota has been set up to enable the church to be kept open for two hours every Tuesday and Thursday morning so that people can wander into the church to look around, light a candle or for private prayer.
In her address Revd Carolyn spoke of the ‘Unwrapping God’s Gift’s’ leaflets that every church in the diocese have been sent and explained some of the thinking behind it, she also said that she was looking forward to the arrival of a new Curate, Julie, later in the year. Revd Carolyn thanked everyone for all the dedicated work they do for St Mary’s and assured us all that she was looking forward to another exciting and busy year. The meeting ended with the Grace.
Finally there was a short meeting of the PCC to elect officers for the coming year which was followed by a cheese and wine buffet..
