What a delightful afternoon we spent at St Mary’s today listening to the Chelmsford Children’s Choir perform in their very first Concert. Although the Children’s Choir have sung at a few of the church services it was lovely to see and hear what they can do at their first solo concert. We heard two vocal solos, a violin solo, a guitar solo and a recorder solo, such talent! The choir’s musical director Jill Parkin re-formed the choir in January 2015 and it has gone from strength to strength. The choir sang a variety of songs starting with ‘Sing of a rainbow’ then on to ‘Hot Potato’ during which we were encouraged to join in as percussionists’? During the latter part of the hour-long concert the children sang a beautiful song called ‘Harvest for the hungry’ which brought many a tear to the eyes of the audience, only to turn our tears into laughter with the song ‘Jelly-fish’. Saying that they weren’t made of jelly and didn’t look like fishhhhh! The C.C.C was accompanied on the piano by Gerald Hindes.
If you would like to join the Chelmsford Children’s Choir please contact Jill Parkin or speak to the Vicar, Reverend Carolyn Tibbott. The concert and raffle was in aid of St Mary’s Church Organ Restoration Fund and was extremely enjoyable, it helped raise over £300.00.
The next concert is to be held on Saturday 7th May 16 starting at 7.00pm in St Mary’s Church when we can enjoy the Boreham Ladies Choir and Singdicate. Tickets are £8.00 from Jill Parkin or on the door.
