But when you are invited, go and sit down in the lowest place, so that when he who invited you comes he may say to you, ‘Friend, go up higher.’ Then you will have glory in the presence of those who sit at the table with you. For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” Luke 14: 10-11: At this morning’s Family Service we heard the beautiful parable of they who humble themselves. Andy addressed us inviting us to join in with his words. He asked us if we could remember what our manners were like as a child, were we allowed to put our elbows on the table? Were we allowed to start eating before anyone else? Were we allowed to leave the table without asking to get down? Such memories, eh? Andy explained that its all to do with good manners, etiquette and in doing the correct thing. Jesus’ parable is a valuable lesson and helps us keep face in company, it also encourages us to put those who are shy and less able before ourselves.
