Organ Recital for a summer afternoon

Organ Recital for a summer afternoon

I am sure we all enjoyed the wonderful musical talent of Mr Eric Withams who came along on Sunday afternoon, the 19th June to St Mary’s to play the organ for us.

Eric Withams who plays the organ at Chelmsford Cathedral kindly offered to come along to give as a true afternoon of pleasure listening to music by Gounod, bach, Boellman, Dubois, Mendelssohn, and many others. Half way through the recital, Eric played a medley of hymn tunes including ‘A New Commandment’ by Blackwell, ‘Aberystwyth’ by Grote and ‘The Servant King’ by Bullard. The penultimate piece must be one of the most beautiful and relaxing tunes of all times ‘Elizabethan Serenade’ by Binge – Ahhh, beautiful…

Jill Parkin, St Mary’s musical director is organising a string of musical events in aid of the church organ restoration fund, and already she has managed to raise over a thousand pounds from the three events staged. The events besides this Organ Recital were the ‘Chelmsford Children’s Choir’ and ‘Boreham Ladies Choir and Singdicate’.

I am sure Jill has some more events in the Organ-Pipe-line, so watch this space for more superb music to come…
