Church open lunch

It was lovely to meet up with most of the other people who for a year now have helped keep the church open every Tuesday and Thursday morning between 9-11am. This very quiet and unassuming ministry has enabled people to be able to walk into an open church to meet a smiling face and a welcoming word or two.
Reverend Carolyn and Curate Julie, invited us all in to church for a buffet lunch to recognise the dedication that many of St Mary’s congregation have shown over the year. Carolyn said that she realised that we do not get many people come in but for the few who have, may have felt it to be a lifeline and place of tranquillity in times of worry and trouble. We have had people walk into the church who have been waiting for news of relatives in Broomfield hospital, people who have been able to relax a little and offload some of their worries onto one of the church sitters or onto God. We have had people wander in who are just fascinated with the idea that they can just walk into a church, have a look around and then just wander out again, no pressure, no questions, no problem! We have had people who have been married in the church many years ago and feel a great sense of joy to just walk through its doors again. We have had people walk in and wander around quietly during the Thursday morning Thanksgiving Service which Carolyn said was wonderful.
And what of those days when absolutely no one has come in at all? Well, Revd. Carolyn assures us that we are never alone as our Saviour, Jesus Christ is always there with us…
