Clutter swept away!
Church News | Sunday, 26 March 2017 |
We were all swept away at how hard everyone worked to give St Mary’s Church a good spring clean with an extra sparkle… There must have been a good dozen people who rolled up their sleeves to clean, sweep and dust the church. All the pew areas were washed down and all the seat runners and kneeling pads were hoovered. The altar area was thoroughly cleaned and so was the Lady Chapel. The bell tower got a good going over and quite a few of the windows were cleaned. We had to watch out when Peter charged in with his extra long duster, to see that the high shelves and ledges were cleaned. I don’t suppose any of the spiders were too happy with Peter’s cleaning efforts but I am sure Revd Carolyn was delighted. Carolyn, sent everyone an email ‘thank you’ and apologised if anyone got missed however, she extends her grateful thanks again to everyone who worked hard to make the church look extra spick n span.
We had a double whammy on Saturday morning for at the same time as the church cleaning was in progress we had an amazing Rummage Sale. Rachel and Sarah set out masses of items for sale, items left over from church fates' etc., goods that had been left unsold. So, to help clear some of the clutter clogging up St Leonard’s hall landing the rummage sale was set-up whereby people paid £2.00 for a large supermarket bag and were able to fill it up to the brim with whatever took their fancy. There were books, toys, CD’s & DVD’s, clothes of all description, etc., plus, there was a soup lunch for anyone who stayed.
Revd Carolyn announced on Sunday morning that £70.00 had been raised from the rummage sale and that it had helped clear a lot of the clutter from the church. Carolyn thanks everyone who helped make the day such a success, especially all those who helped set up, clear away and make and serve the lunch – Thank you…
