The beautiful Crib

St Mary’s church was packed to capacity for the Crib Service on Christmas Eve. The service was due to start at 4.00pm and by 3.15pm seats were already being taken up, and by the time Rev Carolyn had come foreword to announce the start of the service there were already people having to ‘hunt the pew’ or stand up.

The children had been encouraged to dress up as one of the nativity participants so there were lots of Marys’, quite a few Josephs’, loads of ‘angels’ and a good smattering of shepherds and kings.

The service started with that wonderful carol ‘O Come all ye faithful’ followed by the first part of the nativity drama entitled ‘Entre the Chief Angel. This section was followed by the singing of the Calypso Carol and was accompanied by the younger children who played some instruments, (excellent it was too). The Nativity drama continued with the help of the puppets who sang - O little Town of Bethlehem – and so on…………

The children who had dressed up were asked to come up to the front of the church in their nativity costumes and one angel I noticed was particularly well ‘lit up’, which all helped the crib service to go with a swing.

Everyone appeared to enjoy joining-in or participating in the wonderful story of our Saviour’s birth. Unfortunately, I was a member of the puppet crew so we had to forego a seat and stand at the back of the puppet stage so I didn’t get to see much of the service, but if anyone has a photograph or two of the Nativity Drama I will be happy to upload it onto this website.
