Flower Festival and Gift Weekend
Church News | Wednesday, 5 July 2017 |
St Mary’s Flower Festival and Gift Weekend was a wonderful event. There were no less than 34 entries from all around the village of Broomfield, it truly was a weekend of joy and celebration. The event began at 10am Saturday morning, 1st July and closed at 6pm. The Flower Festival resumed on Sunday after the 10.30am Family Service at 12noon and was open until 6pm. The arrangements were nothing short of amazing, so many people who put in so much work to make their displays a joy to the eye. There were donation plates and Gift Aid envelopes available so that people could show their appreciation to the Parish Church of St Mary w St Leonard, Broomfield. The church is constantly in use and like every church, it costs a lot of money to run and maintain, around £1,700 a week, and there is always work being done to help maintain this beautiful and meaningful building. Much of the work carried out in and around the church and churchyard is done on a voluntary basis, like cleaning and work done on small repairs, the churchyard is beautifully kept by a team of workers who give up every Tuesday morning to keep the churchyard looking as good as possible, even though they have difficulty getting any extra help and are always ready to welcome someone who is willing to give up even one hour a week to help with mowing the grass, weeding and general tidying up.
Reverend Carolyn, would like to thank everyone for all the hard work they put in to make the weekend a success. Especially the flower arrangers, Margaret Pinkerton who organised the event and to all those who worked in St Leonard’s Hall providing welcome refreshments and cakes to the visitors. I am sure the result of the Gift Weekend will be published in due course and of course it’s never too late to give a much welcome gift to your beautiful church.
The difficult job now is for me to have to choose around three photographs to put here on the website. All the entries were beautiful and there is no other way for me to pick some photographs other than with the proverbial pin! Please accept my apologies if your arrangement doesn’t show. Joan
