Joyful, moving and thought provoking, all can be ascribed to our 10.30 morning, Christingle service here at St Mary’s Church.

At the beginning of the service Revd Carolyn introduced our new reader Diana to us and she was duly given a very warm St Mary’s welcome. The church was packed and we were delighted when the children were called forward to choose an instrument with which to accompany us as we sang a hymn.

Luke’s Gospel story of the child Jesus being presented in the temple was read out by Sue, Philip and Carolyn after which, Carolyn called forward one of our newly baptised children so that we could all welcome him and his parents into the family of the church.

Following the Lord’s Prayer the Christingles were lit and distributed then throughout the next hymn, ‘Longing for Light’ the large congregation of St Mary’s came alive with light and singing. The collection today included donations for the work of the ‘The Children’s Society’ who care for vulnerable and needy children. The service ended with that joyous hymn ‘Shine, Jesus shine’. Wonderful!
