Counting the Cost
Church News | Sunday, 11 March 2018 |
We enjoyed such a lovely service this morning at St Mary’s Church to celebrate Mothering Sunday. The church was packed with people eager to participate in the service. Our lovely Gospel reading was from Luke 2: 33-35 in which the prophet Simeon blesses the Holy Family and told Christ’s mother Mary that a sword would pierce her heart.
In her address Revd Anne, talked about the cost of being a mother both financially and emotionally. Anne said that the financial cost of raising a child until it is 21 is now somewhere in the region of £222,458 which seems unbelievable, and the cost emotionally is priceless.
The puppets performed to the song ‘Lovely Day’ by Bill Withers, after which Revd Carolyn, blessed the beautiful flowers before distributing them to the children first and then taking them round to all the women in the congregation. Such a lovely, uplifting, joyful and moving service for all.
