Advent Family Service
Church News | Sunday, 2 December 2018 |
We so enjoyed our 10.30am Advent Family Service on Sunday along with the Children’s Society Box appeal collection. Many of us were there to see the first Advent candle lit. The first candle (purple) is the Prophecy candle or the candle of Hope – We can have hope because God is faithful and will keep the promises made to us in the book of Romans 15:12-13. We learnt a new song ‘Be bold, be strong’ where Revd Julie taught us all the actions associated with it. Great fun! Then we had a talk given by Revd Anne, asking us if we were getting prepared for Christmas, during which we welcomed the return of the Puppet Crew, who gave us a lovely and meaningful song called ‘We all have gifts to share’. Revd, Anne resumed her talk reminding us all about the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem…
After the talk, we were invited to bring up our Children’s Society collection boxes and place them at the altar along with most of the boxes that had already been donated, ready to be blessed by Revd Carolyn. It is now up to Sue Cole and her small team to count the money donated, and I am sure Sue would be delighted if you offered to take a box in which to put all your small change, giving hope and perhaps a change to a child’s life.
A couple of our young girls helped us with prayers of intersession and I am sure we all went home very uplifted and ready for the countdown to Christmas when we look forward to Jesus’ birthday once again.
