Following a shortened 10.30am Eucharist Service St Mary’s held their APCM and Vestry Meeting – The service ended with a coffee break which gave us a little time to stretch our legs before taking our places again for the start of the meeting. Revd Carolyn began the meeting with a prayer then after welcoming everyone she remarked on the size of the Annual Review booklet saying how she is always overwhelmed by the amount of work that goes on in our church.
In her comments on the Annual Review, Revd Carolyn thanked everyone for all the work they do for the church especially the church wardens. This year Margaret Powell is standing down after some years as church warden and was presented with a lovely hanging basket that should give her much pleasure in the summer to come. Michael Harvey has offered to replace Margaret and he was duly elected. Revd Carolyn informed everyone that she is about to embark on her sabbatical after many busy years and will return again refreshed in September. She also said that Revd Julie had finished her training here at St Mary’s and would begin looking for a leadership post in September.
Alun Powel gave a very positive reading of the accounts saying that they were in the black this year and hoped everyone would continue supporting the church. Revd Carolyn remarked on the youngsters who have joined the Youth Synod group and following the elections of PCC members and Sidespersons we had two presentations one from Malcolm Taylor who told us about his Pilgrimage and Trudy Stevens who encouraged us to support Christian Aid once again this year. The meeting ended with The Grace and most of us went into St Leonard’s Hall for a light lunch of assorted sandwiches, side-dishes, cakes and refreshments. It was a very upbeat meeting and a very welcome lunch. Thank you!
