Celebration x two
Church News | Sunday, 26 May 2019 |
This week St Mary’s Church held two celebrations – One was held on Wednesday 22nd May and the second was held on the 26th May. The first was to celebrate a life lived and the second was to celebrate a new beginning.
On Wednesday 22nd May many of us gathered with the family and friends in church to celebrate the life of Elaine Richbell who passed away unexpectedly on 28th April. Elaine was very much a part of St Mary’s church and as Revd Julie remarked in her Address saying that she was as much a church-maker as a home-maker. She was part of the flower arranging team, she helped out at the monthly lunch and organised the church-sitting rota as well as taking part in it. On Tuesday, the day before the funeral, all those who are part of the flower arranging team lead by Margaret Pinkerton spent a good deal of time arranging flowers for Elaine’s funeral to be held the next day so everything was bright and fresh. Amazingly we all managed to choose mainly white flowers to celebrate Elaine’s life. At the funeral her two daughters read out beautiful poems and we sang ‘Guide me, O thou great Redeemer’, ‘The Lord’s my Shepherd’ and ‘Abide with me’. The Eulogy was given by the Revd Margaret King and the prayers were led by the Revd Canon Ivor Moody.
Our second celebration for the week was on Sunday 26th May when we helped Revd Carolyn, her husband and family celebrate the wedding of their daughter Claire to Michael Dawson. We had a beautiful service conducted by Revd Anne Harvey. Claire had seven bridesmaids in attendance dressed in long, flowing, silver-grey dresses. We sang ‘Love divine, all loves excelling’ and the service ended with ‘Amazing grace’. Claire’s brother Peter played the organ and piano during the signing of the register and the The Superman Theme Tune by John Williams was chosen for Claire and Michael to walk out into the sunshine to help them start their new life as a married couple.
The Good Lord gave us two beautiful days on which to hold our celebrations and although it seemed very sad that Elaine was not there as part of the flower arranging team for Claire and Michael’s wedding it seemed apt that the flower theme chosen by Claire was white, the same as that chosen for Elaine.
Note: The Revd Margaret King is Team Rector for North Hinckford Parishes and the Revd Canon Ivor Moody is Vice Dean and Canon Pastor, of Chelmsford Cathedral.
