Tongues of Fire
Church News | Sunday, 9 June 2019 |
Today we celebrated the arrival of the Holy Spirit, the promised Third Person of the Trinity. The Holy Spirit arrived with a great sound like rushing wind and raging fire, a lifeforce that alighted on the Disciples giving them powers of language, knowledge and healing… In her sermon this morning Revd Anne asked us if any of us had ever felt the presence of the Holy Spirit. She said that God’s presence is felt through the Spirit, a presence that some people have felt strongly and she quoted three or four stories of other peoples’ experiences.
This afternoon at the young peoples’ Sunday Special a large mural was made of the amazing Holy Spirit ascending with tongues of fire, a picture that will grace the church in the children’s area. The Puppets also performed for the children singing a lovely song using painted, lit candles, hearts and the cross. Revd Julie told us the story of the arrival of the Holy Spirit and treated us to a very noisy machine that sounded like a rushing wind but instead of the Holy Spirit we had plates and plates of pop-corn… Lovely
