Our Gospel reading today from Luke 12: warns us to be ever-ready for the Lord's return. We are all guilty of putting off things we should do today until tomorrow, but we are all aware that sometimes tomorrow never comes and the things we should have done remain undone or unsaid forever. The Gospel reading goes on to give us examples of being ‘ready’, but of course they are ancient instances that really don’t apply today. So thinking about examples that make sense to us today, we could say that in order to prepare ourselves for a sudden call from the Lord, let us always be generous according to our means, let us show love where there could easily be hatred, let us help others whenever possible, let us be thankful for all the good things we have and let us worship the Lord every day.. Amen.
