Samaritans Purse 2019

Today was Shoebox Sunday one of our most favourite family services I am sure… Today’s reading was from Luke 19: telling us that lovely story of Zacchaeus, the hated tax collector who was so short he climbed into a tree so that he could catch sight of the Saviour! At the service we watched a short film about a young lady called Rebecca whose family had been persecuted because they were Christians living in a communist country. They were extremely poor but when she was a child, she was thrilled to receive a shoebox of gifts from the Children’s Charity ‘Operation Christmas Child’. It was a small box of gifts she has never forgotten and she said the box had the aroma of freedom… We also watched the charity's song entitled ‘The greatest gift of all’ which the puppet crew sang along to – Ahhh, it was just beautiful. Revd Julie compared the story of Zacchaeus to the story of Rebecca saying that they had both been persecuted in life, but both had received life-changing rewards.
