Afternoon tea

Afternoon tea

We spent a really enjoyable treat when the clergy put on a super afternoon tea for those of us who attend evening prayer. We met in St Leonard’s hall at four o’clock and were served by Revd’s Carolyn, Julie and Diana to super sandwiches, cakes and nibbles. It was really good to sit around and chat about all manner of things past and present whilst enjoying our sandwiches, cakes and tea. After clearing away we made our way into church for evening prayer. In her address, Revd Carolyn reminded us of the overwhelming joy felt by the wise men when they found the baby Jesus in the manger, and she asked if at any point during Christmas we had felt ‘overwhelming joy’ and although none of us gave any indication that we did, I am sure we can all recognise the overwhelming joy we see in the faces of our church family when they talk of the joy of meeting and spending time with their own families over Christmas. Christmas is a special time when the anniversary of the birth of the Holy Child encourages us to make a special point of being close to our own children and grandchildren, just as Revd Carolyn must have felt such joy at hearing her own baby granddaughter say how much she ‘loved baby Jesus’ Ahhhh!
