I don’t know how many years since St Mary’s w St Leonard’s Church held a flower festival, but whenever it was it could not have surpassed the amazing amount of flower arrangements that were on view during Saturday and Sunday. St Mary’s Church was alive with foliage, colour and beauty as each flower arrangement was carefully and lovingly put together. The arrangers came from all over Broomfield and represented many of the groups and organisations that operate in the area. The Scouts, Edward Bear, SANDS, Little Lambs, Carpet Bowls, St. Mary’s Ladies Group, the Churchyard Working Party to name just a small fraction of the 38 people and groups that were invited to set-up and display their arrangements.

Margaret Pinkerton worked non-stop over the three gloriously, sunny days of the Flower Festival, not to mention of course, the many, many months of organisation that went into getting it all together, up and running.

During the set-up Friday, then Saturday and Sunday, many of St Mary’s ladies took to the kitchen where welcome refreshments were served in a relaxed atmosphere after viewing the flowers.

We were also treated to some beautiful music on Saturday. The piano was played by Milly Howlett in the morning, then Grace and Alys Harvey played for us in the afternoon. Sunday we ere treated to the beautiful sining voice of Helen Littlewood who was accompanied on the piano by Peter Tibbott. St Mary’s Flower Festival certainly satisfied all our senses.

Revd. Carolyn, thanks Margaret Pinkerton for all her work and expertise along with all the people who gave their time and artistic energy to flower arranging, not forgetting the people who worked in the refreshment area and all the people who generously donated yummy cakes. Carolyn also thanks all the people who came along and helped make St Mary’s Flower Festival 2013 such a rousing success.
