Nothing is quite as lovely as seeing a blessing performed and eating a bowl of srawberries and cream, yet on Thursday we were treated to both.

Just four days after her Priesting, Revd Anne led her very first Eucharist service on the evening of 26th June. Many of St Mary’s faithful communicants came along to support Anne and to witness her initial, faultless Eucharist service. Following the service, drinks and snacks were served to help us all congratulate Anne and celebrate this important occasion. After a short while many of the ladies present set off to St Leonard’s Hall for their monthly meeting, which they had kindly held back until the end of this special service.

That evening the Ladies Group was holding a Strawberry Supper so it was with delight that many of us left one celebration and took our places in the hall for yet another. There lay before us were beautifully prepared bowls of strawberries with sugar and cream plus scones with cream and jam, yum… and to help that down we were treated to glasses of cool, bucks-fizz. However, before tucking into our strawberry supper, we were delighted to see Revd Carolyn and Revd Anne join us in the hall to bless the stunning Wooden Alter Set that had been gifted to the Lady Chapel by the Ladies Group. It was such a joy and pleasure to witness Anne blessing the Alter Set which concluded with lots of happy smiles and applause. Unfortunately, both Carolyn and Anne was exhausted after such a long, happy but stressful day that neither of them were able to attend the enjoyable evening that the ladies group had organised.

Even so, it was a delightful close to an extraordinary day, and perhaps the Ladies Group would consider finding another reason to organise a ‘strawberry blessing’?
