Revd Sue Howlett

What a privilege and joy it was to attend the Ordination of our dear Sue. It was a wonderful and uplifting service held at Chelmsford Cathedral starting at 6.00pm.
I am sure we will all miss Sue very much, but we hold many fond memories of her ministry here at St Mary’s. I have not known Sue for that long, unlike many of St Mary’s congregation, however, we did share many days at Morning Prayer together, which we both loved and enjoyed.
Following the beautiful Ordination of Deacons service on Saturday 28th June, I followed Sue around trying to take photos of her, and after having captured a few, she turned, gave me a big hug and said how much she will miss St Mary’s and our time spent at Morning Prayer together. She reminded me of the fateful morning she had come down to lead the short service. She had forgotten to bring the church keys so we could not get into the church so we decided to hold Morning Prayer in St Leonard’s Hall, only to find that St Leonard’s Hall was locked too so we decided to grab the nearest prayer books and her and I stood together and held Morning Prayer in the walkway between the church and the hall… Well, it was no less a meaningful service that day and we laughed together as we recalled it, being absolutely convinced that God has a wicked sense of humour.
Sue has worked extremely hard to accomplish her wonderful goal and I am sure we all wish her many wonderful hours of ministry at her new church St Andrew's in Boreham. Good luck Sue and lots of love from us all. x
